The Golden Joysticks return this weekend for the 33rd year.
They're the only annual awards voted for by gamers with nine million votes cast last year.
The gaming personality of the year category is one of the hardest to call this time around, with the likes of PewDiePie, Austin Creed and MasterOV and MasterChar all nominated.
We caught up with two of the other names in the running StampyLongHead and AshleyMarieeGaming.
"When I got the email, I couldn't believe it," Ashley told Newsbeat.
"When I was younger I didn't think I'd be doing anything like this. It's such a shock.
"To win an award would be such an honour. It's hard to explain because there are no words."
"I was stupid insecure, so I kind of wanted to do it for myself," she said.
"It's a lot harder being a girl. Some people think that girls just aren't good enough at games or that we're not as funny or not as educated in the gaming world.
"Most of my subscribers are amazing. If anyone says anything bad about me they just jump in and stick up for me."
The 19-year-old now has more than 600,000 subscribers and she says she feels a responsibility for them.
"Most of my audience are young teenagers and children, so you have to think those children are watching you and looking up to you. I take that so seriously."
StampyLongHead started making his Minecraft videos for fun too.
"When Minecraft came out I was making little videos on the side just as a bit of a hobby," he told Newsbeat.
"It feels great to be nominated. It's a little bit scary at the same time to know that there's a lot of people looking at you.
"You feel like you've got to be very careful with everything that you do.
"But it's nice to get recognised."
